Eternal Stimulus Plan?

I was thinking about that Economic Stimulus Package thing earlier today, and I realized that the government is really doing its part to build the kingdom.

Say there are 5 million LDS people in the U.S. (I really have no idea how many there are, but work with me here). That figure includes spouses and children, so divide it by, say, 5 and end up with roughly a million Mormon households. (How's my math so far, Jon?) Even if only 40% (I think that's the average statistic) pay tithing on their ESP money (Economic Stimulus Package money, mind you, not money made from transactions involving Extra-Sensory Perception) - and even if each household received only the minimum $300 in ESP dough - that's 400,000 people forking over 30 bucks apiece that they otherwise wouldn't have had to a well-deserving church.

Thank you, George, for generously donating 12 million dollars to the Mormons. Although in Matt's words, "Not that the church needs it. The government should keep its money." Just the same, I'm sure all that green will be put to good use.

Where in the world do you come up with these thoughts???

Not that I'm trying to worm my way out of paying tithing on the stimulus package or anything,.. but if it's a tax break,... it's a refund of taxes you've paid,... doesn't that mean that you've already paid the tithing on that income in the past? I guess it all depends on whether you're paying tithing on your net or gross income.

Wow, suprisingly...I totally followed that! haha! College has done me good. Very wise post, Britt. Kudos.

IS it a tax break? I guess I was thinking it was just straight free money...

And Angie, I have to blog about SOMETHING. If I went on adventures on the weekends like you guys, trust me - I'd blog about them. Or pink flamingos!!

It's not a tax rebate. This is not money based on anything except a desire to spur the economy, and Washington, D.C. is using bonds sold to China and others to pay for it.

So, it would be a gift (as opposed to a tax refund or income), one given with the express purpose of spending it in a timely manner. For tithing purposes, then, you would tithe on it if you tithe on gifts.

That's my muddled 2 cents.

We'll use a good portion of ours to send our child to a church school, so I think we're right on lone with brittany's ideas. [grin]

You know, I hadn't thought about it in that way, but it really is cool. I just keep thinking this money's going to a house downpayment one day...

What a creative way to look at it . . . I wonder what congress would say when you informed them they are really providing the LDS church with an "eternal stimulus plan?"
