Not a Freak

As the subject of this post implies, I felt so validated by the comments on my last post that I'm tempted to lay bare all my skeletons and general wackiness.

Instead, I'm finally putting up some new pictures of the handsomest 7-month-old this side of the Rockies. His latest trick is to eat his feet:

There is also a good amount of looking like a Turk, especially if Daddy has anything to do with dressing him (this is such a classic Truman face, by the way - 'You have GOT to be kidding me'):

And, my personal favorite: the post-bath, very surprised hippo.

I love this baby! He's been sick this week, and his sore runny nose and barky cough just break my heart. I'm learning to not worry about his little oddities the same way I'm learning to let go of my own - I know of a couple of babies his age who are 'doing' more than he is developmentally, and it's hard not to compare. I never thought I was going to be one of those parents who bragged that her child was composing sonatas at three months, but when I see some baby younger than mine fixin' to crawl around...well, I get a little anxious. He may end up a freak like his mama (I'm kidding!), but I trust he'll do things his own way and at his own pace. In the meantime, I am sort of enjoying the fact that I don't have to babyproof the house.

Holy cow, those are some of the cutest baby pictures I've ever seen! He looks so much like you guys; I'm pretty convinced it wasn't the milkman . . .What a nutty kid!

oh he is sooo adoreable! I love all of those expressions,.. !!! He has to have a reason to want to crawl before it'll ever happen so don't worry,.. he'll eventually not be able to reach one of his toys and decide to go for it,... or he might just skip straight to walking like some kids do,.. :) trust me,.. many kids have done wierder things. :) and that hippo face again,... wow,.. he is going to be a little heart breaker. Hope you're saving that one because his future wife is going to want to see it.

Such a cute little man! That surprised look can't be real, it's too stinkin' funny!
I'm with you on the babyproofing the house thing, hold off as long as possible! Jonas has already turned the computer off on me once this morning and he is currently stuck under my chair!
I have no doubt that children of yours will be anything other than brilliant!

Absolutely! Enjoy every little stage, and good for you for not falling into that trap of wishing on the next one.

you don't get those pictures with a point and shoot, I'll tell you that much right now - do you hear me Jonny? (not that I am using lighting and everything well, but the response time is a must.)

Now I realize that I don't have any kids of my own, but from the experience i have gained taking care of other people's kids i have learned that all kids are truly different. I know two 11 month olds right now, one walks everywhere and the other could care less to crawl. So there you go. By the way the hippo pic is ridiculously cute.

So Matt, you now own a camera, too?

I cannot speak for you and hanging your clothes the wrong way in the closet, but your baby is doing brilliantly. That whole chewing on the foot thing, terrific sign; he's workin' on those sitting muscles. It'll all come soon enough.
