Back at Truman's 12-month well baby visit, our pediatrician suggested that we go see a pediatric eye doctor.
For two months I put off making the appointment.
By the time I got around to making the call, they were scheduling two and a half weeks out.
When we got to the office, we waited for 20 minutes before filling out any paperwork. (Of the half-dozen other kids in the waiting room, most were wearing glasses, and one had a patch. Cute for Halloween, but...not for my opinionated little pirate-in-embryo.)
We waited another 20 minutes to have two drops put in his eyes.
We were told to leave and come back 45 minutes later once his eyes were dilated.
We left. We came back. Truman fell asleep. We woke him up. We waited for the doctor to come in.
He came in for two minutes and made some "pss pss" noises while shining a light in Truman's eyes.
And finally, two and a half hours after we first arrived, we received the grim pronouncement:
"His eyes are perfect."
I guess it's worth a $35 co-pay and a long afternoon to know for sure, huh?
Stay tuned for the first edition of "Another One of Matt's Brilliant Ideas," coming soon...

So glad he is fine and doesn not have to wear a patch. Interestingly, I just went to see Dr. Durphy and we were talking about kids with eye patches. He says they don't work. Hmmmm... poor kids who have to wear them and for no reason, but for people on the street to feel sorry for you.
Under Obama, that'll all be free, you know.
With nationalized health care, Truman would have gotten that "all's well" diagnosis by the 6th or 7th grade, I'm sure.
Yeah, but they do look good on pirates!!! Glad he's okay, I accidentally pocked Mike in the eye when he was a few months old, we had to patch it, and it wasn't fun for anyone!!
I can't believe your kid is old enough to have been a year, and then had two months pass . . . What the heck?!
Glad he's got perfect eyes.
Ah, the medical run around. Good times!
I can't wait to hear Matt's idea.
I sure love doctors, it must be nice when your time is so much more important than others and you can make someone wait for hours just to see you. :)
I'm sure this post leaves many Johnsons disappointed that Truman won't be wearing a patch and carrying on the pirate tradition.
Looking forward to hearing about Matt's brilliant idea!
Good for Truman, bad for pirate futures.
Hahaha! I love that it's the FIRST edition of "ANOTHER one of Matt's brilliant ideas." haha!
I wish I could write like you...teach me? Or you could just give me your brain and rightfully deserve a lead roll in the next Wizard of Oz movie.
I say the latter.
Hahaha, I miss my tru-bug. I was starting to panic a little when you mentioned the patch of the other kid. I thought that's where you were taking us. ha. But of course his eyes are perfect. Didn't you know that's how it works? The kid has the opposite of his parent's eyes. Look at our family? If mom and dad had been blind, Cindy would have 20/10 vision. =)
Truman is so cute, he could pull off the patch. The rest of us...not so much.
You're so funny. You had me worried at first! I'm glad Truman's eyes work!
