Is it just me, or are the field reporters covering the Olympics downright heartless?
"So you've just been beaten out of a medal by one one-millionth of a point in this, your final Olympic Games. You've trained your whole life, and all for nothing. Tell me about the horror you're experiencing right now."
At this point the athletes, not known for their PR skills, are never looking at the camera. They stare dumbfounded at the scoreboard or timeclock, shaking from exhaustion and nerves, wishing that the earth would open up and swallow them whole to spare them the added humiliation of Perky Newswoman's inane line of questioning.
"What happened out there today?"
"Uh, I lost. I came and tried to win, but it turns out I was behind when the time ran out."
"There you have it folks. Heartbreak for Johnny Athlete, who certainly won't be coming back for the 2012 games."
Ouch.

Oh, my gosh this made me laugh out loud.
I feel exactly the same way, why do they do that?
Too true. But I've basically thought the athletes have done a pretty good job at putting up a good front.
Very true. I'm just waiting for one of them to respond, "So what have you done with your life?"
I wonder what would happen if a reporter went over and said, "That is awesome! You came in eleventh place in the entire world! You rock!" Or what if an athlete said, "Ya know, I just lost my concentration during the race because I kept being asked stupid questions by reporters. I like got all confused..."
I've noticed that the reporters never ask those types of questions to the fourth place wrestling contenders or the track and field guys while they are holding their javelins and shot puts.
I'm just glad the reporters have stopped talking about Michael Phelps...
no, it's not just you. ryan and i have been so so so disappointed in their poor narrating and reporting. boo.
Loved this post...I couldn't stop laughing.
True to the core.
It brings to mind the press conferences with the college football teams--maybe it's my lack of sports concern, but do we really need to discuss to great lenghts the whys and wherefores of the games?
Okay, sorry, that last comment was me, not Rob.
Did you see the interview with the USA diver who did not make it into the finals? She is trying not to sob and the dumb reporter just keeps asking her questions! Honestly!
HAHAHAHA This was amazing!!! I loved it. Why can't I think like you? Or Buffy for that matter. Her response was way awesome as well. I have the best sisters...
I was happy when I saw one of the track and field athletes just walk away after that type of question...it was great.
amen, sister.
this is soo true! there were some interesting responces to loses! But I love the Olympics and cant wait another 4 years.
