Smörgåsbord (a little of everything, please...)

From Cub Scouts this week (not exactly worthy of 'gems' distinction, but at least an honorable mention):

Brittany: "So what are some situations where you might need courage? Like at school if someone's picking on you, do you need courage? Yes, New Scout?"
New Scout: "My puppy died."
B: "Oh - I am so sorry! Uh...it takes courage to get through something like that."

A little later...

B: "So if you get in a car accident and someone is badly hurt, should you move him?
NS: "No."
B: "That's right. And why not?"
NS: "Because you might get blood on you."

I can tell we've got a new winner on our hands!

Speaking of winning, I am -- against the evils of too many treats, that is. Unwilling (at least at the moment) to go cold turkey where the good stuff is concerned, I have adopted Sonja's one-a-day plan, plus I've exercised every day since that post. I'm not trying to toot my own horn here, just trying to create some accountability. Thanks for the encouragement in your comments, by the way - at least I'm not alone!

In other news, I voted for the first time in my life yesterday. I know, I know - I've been eligible to vote for over 5 years and only yesterday did I do my civic duty. Too bad it took me an excruciatingly long 20 seconds to figure out where in the machine to put my electronic voting card, then I had to read all the directions twice to make sure my vote would be counted correctly. (As Matt asked later, "No problems with dimpled chads, were there?") Thank heaven there were only three things to vote on or my brain might have overheated from the exertion...

Last but not least, "Squirt" (as we've taken to calling him) officially turned three months old yesterday. I cannot believe how much I love this little boy.

That's it from here - thanks for listening.

Go Brittany! Since I'm almost done weaning Addie, I think it's time for me to start my own diet idea. I'll keep you posted.

I know everyone says this, but it only gets better. Today Seth took the garage door opener from me: "I put it in my car seat so it not get lost." He knows now who not to trust with important, easily-lost items.

Yeah, Brittany is pretty much a power mom...

Brittany, the correct spelling is "Smørgåsbord." I just felt I should point this out to a real live editor. You spelled it the Swedish way, which just torques some of us off!

Actually, I spelled it the "copy and paste from Wikipedia" way. Alas, they said it was a Swedish word...

However you spell it, it was good! (p.s. Paul sometimes gets things wrong, check out the "cheesecake" encounter in his blog! Then ask yourself, should I trust the way he spells anything?)

hahahahaha, that was so cute. And my heart did a little leap and turn wen I read "Squirt." I miss that little guy. I need him. He's mine over thanksgiving, that's all I have to say.

PS. Only Johnson's would sit and comment on correct spelling. Us Marinos' just aren't very smart, I guess. We just sit and bat our long eyelashes and make you THINK we're smart. =)

Random thought:

Whenever I think of calling you, it's either 5 o' clock in the morning, or in the evening when I am pretty sure you have the hubby for company. Ha-rumph.

While you are on the topic of us pointing out correct spellings Carly.... you forgot the 'h' in "when". I like the post, keep 'em comin'.

A cautionary tale about asking children about bravery, my sister-in-law had this experience when serving as the primary chorister and they were preparing to sing about courage and bravery:
my s-i-l: "So, have any of you guys ever known anyone who was really brave?"
small boy in front raises his hand enthusiastically so she calls on him and he says, "My dad was REALLY brave when he rode the wave runners NAKED at LAKE POWELL!!"
Is that the best or what?
