I think there is something so decadent about eating a strawberry. It's a luxury that can turn milk toast into a king's meal and always gives me the illusion that I have more money than I do.
So you can imagine how pampered I felt this morning when, after getting a full extra hour of sleep and then taking a long shower (for once uninterrupted by screaming, whining, and/or violent protests at my absence - I know, Matt is really making progress), I followed my nose into the kitchen and found my wonderful husband making crepes - complete with decadent strawberries.
This is AFTER I found a note on the bedroom door from my nine-month-old thanking me for being a wonderful mother and informing me that this was my day...in suspiciously familiar handwriting. But back to the strawberries.
I ate. And ate. Then I ate some more.
Then I went to church and daydreamed about crepes while my white knight happily volunteered to change poopy diapers and take the boy to class with him so I could worship in peace.
Almost the first minute in the door after church, Mr. Thoughtful went to work on the morning's dishes. By the time I had put the boy down for a nap, my kitchen was immaculate.
Who's having a great day so far?
In spite of all that, I think my favorite part of the day was our after-dinner walk along the river trail. We stopped in the shade of some big, old trees, let the boy play in the grass (squealing like a hyperactive chimp all the while), and just talked and talked. It was an evening you want to catch and carry in your pocket for a day when the weather isn't so perfect, or when you don't feel so completely at peace, or when you forget you're the luckiest person in the world.
Well, I know it today. I am immeasurably blessed to be the wife of such a caring, righteous man who loves being a dad as much as I love being a mom to our darling son.
My motherhood is so precious to me. Thanks to both my boys for making this such a great Mother's Day.

I just try to be you one or two days a year. I'm pooped from it. Back to lazy old me.
Ah, Britt. You deserve a Mother's Day like that. So glad you got it.

Brittany on behalf of all the other husbands in the world I lodge a formal protest against breaking the unwritten rule of not publicizing extremely kind acts by a husband.
You have no idea how much havoc this can wreak for the rest of husbands!
How wonderful! Hooray for Mom's Day!
loved that blog, isn´t mother´s day grand?
Brittany, just thought you should know that post made me cry because it was so beautifully written.
This was a beautiful post, Brittany. Good job Matto. I made Nate pray and read the scriptures on Mother's day. we're still workin' on the crepes.
Amen, Dad, but meanwhile, Matt: get on the ball.
Great post, Brittany.
I think it is amazing that you have such a brilliant baby who can already write you notes!
