Chickens and/or Feathers

"Chicken or feathers."

My dad used this phrase on me when I was in college and bemoaning the fact that I had either ten (okay, maybe not ten - maybe, like, two) guys after me or none at all. I like the imagery of the feathers part; I imagine myself as a cartoon character standing, dazed, in the cloud of feathers left behind when a chicken makes a shotgun-type exit. Or explodes.

I'm finding that there are lots of things in life that are chicken-or-feathers:

- Truman was the only baby born on either side of the family last year. This year, between our two families, we're welcoming seven babies. Can you say CHICKEN?!

- If I've got an idea for this blog, I've got a truckload of ideas. I have to physically restrain myself from posting more than about every other day...until I run out of ideas. Then I don't post for a month. Enter feathers, stage left.

- My child hasn't been eating for about the last three weeks. Purses his lips when he sees a spoon, throws a tantrum when placed in the high chair, you name it. But for the last three days I haven't been able to get enough food in him. One thing that he has yet to eat is chicken (are you catching the subtle reference here?), but he does, miraculously, eat refried beans.

- I got asked today what kinds of things I like to do. "You know, what are your hobbies?" After learning that the asker's hobbies ranged from knitting to rock climbing to charcoal drawing, my limited list of hobbies (cook, eat, rinse, repeat) felt a lot like...feathers.

Anyone else feeling the drought-or-drowning dilemma?

I'd hazard a guess that the person with all those hobbies hasn't actually DONE any of those hobbies in months...if not years. Liking to think about doing something/used to to something when younger does not a hobby make.

I have the desire to do a great many things...chicken. Newborn baby arrives and I am forced to live with...feathers. However, I did make some window treatments today. They turned out cute. Maybe I will post them on my blog.

Basically the story of my life. I wonder why it has to be like that.

I've been in the drowning phase-Too many chickens for me right now...seems as soon as I get them organized my kids run by screaming and laughing and then I am left with feathers...

Buff I want to see the window treatments-

Mom says with tears of laughter in her eyes, "You come by your hobby honestly...Yia Yia would be so proud!"
